Ah Annaoula (small Anna) in the snow

Anyway if you like the lyrics of the song, you find it at the botton of this page, first in Greek and then in English. Lovely song, you may listen to it on YouTube
It is the nameday of Anna today, but here it is not snowing! Friday was beautiful witb blue, blue sky and clear sky.
I have to tell you a story from 9th of December ca 1990. I was working as a rep in Paphos, Cyprus, a jounalist friend was visiting. We went to Lefkosia/Nikosia and across to the occupied part of Cyprus. Across the border we met a very nice Greek Cypriot taxidriver and he offered us a daytrip. We had to be back by sunset according to the rules. The taxi took us to many nice monuments on our way via Famagousta, where we really saw the barbwire, bombed hotels and more, so sad. The highlight of the trip was the beautiful seaport of Kyrenia where we had a fantastic seafood mezé. The way back went via the amazing monastery of Bellabaise. BUT what was so sad was all damages on statues, like head stolen, ikons with eyes picked out and more. My conclution was that the occupied part looked like black & white TV!
Why this story? My friends «Greek« name was Anna and at the taverna that evening in Lefkosia the musissians came to our table and sang this beautiful song of Ah Annoula … when they realized that she was an Anna ❣️

And in English
Lyrics: Sarantis Alivizatos
Music: Marios Tokas
First version: Antonis Kaloyiannis
It’s been long that the moon doesn’t bass by here
The land is chaki, eats your heart
At night I write again I love you on white paper
I mumble your name in the guardpost
Oh, little Anna of snowy weather
I won’t be with you anymore
By November the ninth
when Anna you have your nameday
Last night in my dream, strange thing the mind is
pigeons, it says, came in the army camp
And it came up, they said this was a dream too
get up and go to Anna of the winter
Oh, little Anna of snowy weather…
